At A Hop & A Skip we value slow fashion and work with a manufacturing model that supports our local industry.
The majority of the production is done by me, Laura, in my home studio in Brisbane. That includes all designs, patternmaking, grading, cutting and sewing, it’s a real labour of love. Production of stretchwear (Lycra tights and bottoms) is outsourced because this requires specialized machinery and skills. For this, we are proud to partner with a Brisbane based family-run production company.
I have always been drawn to the ‘make do and mend’ movement of war time England, for this reason I like to use vintage and deadstock materials. The finite nature of these materials however, means that many these items are produced in very limited quantities and will not be re-stocked.
I also love quality, sustainable textiles such as Tencel and linen and try to keep up with new and emerging textile technology and products. I partner with a textile supplier who supplies my all new materials.
