Hello! I'm Laura.

I've never been able to walk past beautiful textiles. Vintage tablecloths, embroidered linens, old quilts, colourful prints... I see possibility everywhere.

Sewing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching the women in my family sew, mend and make, and those skills have been passed down through three generations. They're still at the heart of everything I create today.

Before starting a hop and a skip, I studied psychology, performed as a circus artist, and worked in wardrobe for Queensland Ballet while completing my Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising. I later worked as an industrial machinist and costume maker, experiences that continue to shape every garment I make.

Studying fashion opened my eyes to the industry's wasteful and unethical practices, and I knew I wanted to make clothes that people could enjoy wearing while giving beautiful existing textiles another life.

So I started a hop and a skip.

From my Brisbane studio, I design and sew every piece using vintage, thrifted and deadstock textiles. Some pieces are completely one of a kind, while others are made in very small batches. I love giving beautiful fabrics a new life and creating clothes that are made to be worn, loved and kept for years.

Thank you for supporting handmade, independent Australian fashion. I'm so happy you're here.
