Got a project you’d love to start (or finish!) but need a little help along the way? Whether you’re brand new to sewing or looking to build on your skills, Make & Mend is the perfect mix of guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support.

Bring your sewing machine, your project, and your ideas — we’ll provide the expertise, tools, and creative company to get you sewing with confidence.

When you book, we’ll ask a few quick intake questions so we know what you’d like to work on. That way we can come prepared, making sure your time in the studio is productive, focused, and tailored to your needs.

You’ll get:

Two expert instructors for personalised help in a small group setting

Step-by-step guidance to learn new techniques and troubleshoot challenges

Access to studio tools — cutting tables, irons, and specialist equipment

A relaxed, friendly environment to sew alongside fellow makers

We can help with:

Learning to use and get comfortable with your sewing machine

Starting simple projects and learning foundational sewing skills

Garment construction techniques

Pattern adjustments & fit issues

Finishing details like zips, buttonholes & bias binding

Alterations & repairs

Working on your thrifted finds to alter, upcycle, and give them a new life

Who is this for?

Beginners ready to learn sewing basics and build confidence

Sewists with some experience who want to refine or expand their skills

Anyone who can bring and set up their own sewing machine (BYO is preferable, but we do have a limited number available to borrow if you’re new to sewing)

FAQs

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
Yes! This class is BYO sewing machine. Please bring your own machine and make sure you know how to operate it.

I’m a total beginner — is this class for me?
This class is best suited to confident beginners who already have some sewing experience, up to intermediate skill level. If you’re brand new to sewing, you might want to start with a beginner-specific class first.

What should I bring to class?
Bring your sewing machine, your current project, and any fabrics, threads, notions, or patterns you need. If you’re unsure about supplies, just ask us when you book!

What if I don’t finish my project in one session?
No worries — many participants work on projects over multiple classes. You can book casual sessions or take advantage of our 4-for-3 class bundle to keep going.

I’m coming to the first class as a casual participant — can I still get the 4-for-3 bundle?
Yes! If you attend your first class as a casual participant, you can still take advantage of the 4-for-3 introductory bundle offer afterward.

Will there be help with pattern fitting and adjustments?
Yes! We offer guidance on pattern adjustments, fitting issues, and working with commercial patterns.

Is patternmaking covered in this class?
This is primarily a sewing class focused on construction. We won’t be covering in-depth patternmaking, but can help with basic pattern adjustments and fitting.

Can I get help with repairs and alterations?
Absolutely — mending and alterations are a key part of Make & Mend.

How many people are in each class?
Classes are kept small to ensure personalised support — around 8 people per session.

What if I don’t have all the tools or equipment?
We provide access to studio tools like cutting tables, irons, and specialist equipment, but you’ll need to bring your own sewing machine and personal supplies.

Will I be refunded if the event does not go ahead in unforeseen circumstances?

Yes! If we need to cancel a session due to unforeseen circumstances participants will be refunded in full.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my booking?

Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule your booking to a different date or provide a refund for cancelled bookings because of the preparation required for the workshops and the limited spaces available.
