FAQs
FAQs
Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
It’s best to bring your own machine so you can learn on the one you’ll be using at home. If it’s new to you, I can help you get comfortable with how it works.
If you don’t have a machine, you’re welcome to use one of mine.
I’m a total beginner — is this class for me?
Yes, absolutely. Private classes are a great option for total beginners because I can give you one-on-one attention, walk you through each step, and go at your pace.
What should I bring to class?
Bring your sewing machine (if you have one), your current project, and any fabrics, threads, notions, or patterns you need. If you’re unsure about supplies, just ask us when you book!
What if I don’t have all the tools or equipment?
You’ll have access to studio tools like cutting tables, irons, and specialist equipment. Please bring your own sewing machine and any personal supplies you’d like to use.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my booking?
Classes are non-refundable, but you’re welcome to reschedule to another time or date with at least 24 hours’ notice. Please email to arrange.

Did a learn to sew session with Laura from a hop and a skip and it was so good. I had a couple of pieces that I brought that need fixing. She went through different stitching styles on how to fix the clothing, and how to use iron-on fixing patches. She is really friendly and patient and I benefited a lot from it. New skills for life! I recommend her classes for anyone who wants to mend or alter their own gear.
Thanks Isobel, it was great to bring your beautiful vintage pieces back to life. Happy sewing!
Laura is a most spectacular teacher. Adapting to my exact starting point with ease and providing thoughtful and invaluable help every step along the way. A gem like Laura is a rare find, I learnt so much from the session and gained a beautiful creation and confidence! Could not recommend more.
Keep up the great work!
Laura provided a great, hands on sewing session doing a bumbag tutorial. Her tutorial was able to accommodate a range of sewing skill levels. Laura's enthusiasm and joy for sewing was infectious and she is a positive tutor and fun to be around. Definitely sign up for her workshops.
Thanks Judy, you all did so well!
I attended a Make and Mend session with Laura, and it exceeded all my expectations. I learnt about pattern making, different types of seams and how to attach a zip all in one session! Laura is extremely patient and very knowledgeable. She also taught me a few tricks that are transferable to any sewing project. Laura, thank you so much for your time and help with my project. I will definitely be back! 🙂
Hi Zaynab, I'm glad to know that you got so much out of it. Come back anytime!
I had a 1 on 1 sewing session with Laura and couldn't recommend it enough! Laura was giving me some great tips on my skirt mending project - the things you would never be able to Google. It was a perfect way to get into clothes repair and repurposing which is what Laura is all about! Thank you for the session! I will surely be back soon.
Thanks Julia, hands on guidance always beats Google 😊
